The Democrats have shown they are more interested in playing party politics instead of helping the American people. They have stalled on all three of the stimulus bills the Republicans agreed to because they were for less than what the Democrats want. Specifically, Democrats want stimulus money for Democrat state governments and not for the people. The Republicans have already accepted the Democrat's unemployment terms (which do not fix unemployment permanently like the Republican bill did), so there is no reason for Democrat states to get extra money on top of that. The August Republican Offering would have permanently fixed Unemployment--getting rid of ridiculously low state "maximums." I was shocked when it didn't pass--as were many other people. In addition, to protect millions out of work, President Trump had to executive order additional funds for the unemployed because he seems to care more about them than the party that claims they support social programs. Paycheck Protection was supposed to be extended in the August Republican Offering, but that version was also scoffed at by Democrats. The Democrats could have easily accepted these lower offerings and then immediately started framing Stimulus 3 with the extra goodies for their states that they wanted. Instead they held needed funds ransom to get their wish list.
Biden has stated he is undecided on any more stimulus checks while at the same time stating he supports locking everyone down until either COVID-19 is eradicated or a vaccine is made and distributed. Since he belongs to a party that thinks politics is more important than lifelines, I would not hold my breath for anything more in that department despite vague promises of universal income (which, by the way has been tried in Finland and failed as an experiment and has been tried in California and is failing as an experiment because it was not designed to track unemployment but how the money given was spent--unfortunately 40% of the money is withdrawn for cash and only being tracked by word of mouth). Free money makes people happy but has not been shown to allow them to obtain better jobs.
President Trump, on the other hand, has stated frequently and loudly he is all for more stimulus and at the same time against future lockdowns: “I’d like to see it be very high because I love the people, I want the people to get it.” The problem is that he needs both the Senate and the House to do that. With two weeks before the election, it is highly unlikely that anything will get resolved by then.
But what about now after the election? Well, that poses a new problem. Unlike the AP, I recognize that less than a 20,000 vote lead is not very much and easy to be challenged--especially with so many reports of people voting twice (once by mail and once in person), so as far as I am concerned this election isn't over, yet.
Let's say Donald Trump is reelected. The Democrats will still have the House until January and the Republicans will still have the Senate until January, but are the Democrats going to reward the US in that time with a stimulus check if Biden doesn't get in? Now, if both the Senate and the House go to Republicans, there is a chance some sort of stimulus bill will pass, but that would be after January. If Democrats get one and the Republicans the other, I have no doubt the deadlock will continue. If the Democrats get both, I have a feeling the things they will come up with would not be in line with what the President is willing to offer on this.
Now, let's say Joe Biden gets elected. Joe is undecided about stimulus checks, plus we have President Trump until January. Now, let's say Biden gets a Republican House and Senate. I highly doubt they will work with him, just as I doubt Republicans would pass a Democrat stimulus between now and January. But, let's say Joe gets both House and Senate with a Democrat majority. He is not overly enthusiastic about stimulus, so again I would not hold my breath.
