BBC •Russia accuses West of Ukraine plot - ‎4‎/‎25‎/‎2014

I do translations as a freelance writer (see my freelance blog here or my Guru profile here). In the past year (read 'in 2013'), I edited a plea from a Russian living in Ukraine. The Ukrainian police had stopped him on the street three times, discovered he was Russian, and thrown him in jail where he was severely beaten. Yes, there is that much hatred of Ukrainians for Russia. In fact, there is a great proportion of Russians living in Crimea, so it doesn't surprise me that Russia took it back. (I mean it does lead to a seaport.) I don't think Russia wants all of Ukraine. Furthermore - our papers are not and have not been reporting on the hatred Ukrainians have for Russians. Just as they are avoiding reporting the aggressive things we have been doing!

I have to agree that the US at least is plotting to start a war. Granted, I am a Monroe Doctrinist. I don't think we should get involved in things on the other side of the world unless they represent a direct threat to us. This doesn't. Except that now we are giving money to the Ukraine, just like we funded the Contras in the Iran-Contra affair and later discovered that was probably not such a good idea. My theories that we should keep our noses to ourselves is sound - every time we have tried to fund or 'help' other nations we end up funding and helping terrorists.

Hmm, Russia takes over a portion of Ukraine that is filled with Russians and that has voted saying it wants to join with Russia. Ukraine attacks Russians that are still within its boarders. Russia retaliates. The US steps up to the plate, says the vote wasn't fair, and clamps sanctions on Russia. (But the news is pegging our President as trying to seek peaceful means to diffuse the situation?) Then we give 50 million to Ukraine in 'aid', vow to support Ukraine, threaten more sanctions, and move our troops into countries next to Ukraine.

Who is the aggressor? Minor skirmishes go on over boundary lines in many countries. Most countries are not pleased when parts of them choose to break away (consider Sudan).

By the way, if you don't think that my last post where I said the President should look in his back yard and listen to the people protesting the 4th phase of the Keystone Pipeline have anything to do with this, check out this USAToday article about the sanctions. The President only gives lip-service to the environment.

When you even have former Eastern block countries that lived as satellites to the Soviet Union while the wall was up, saying they will not enforce sanctions, you have a major problem.

I am also not the only one worried about WWIII, there is also the radical right and radical left news hinting about it. In fact, 1 year ago, Russian officials warned that if the US kept up its policies, the US would start WW III. Just expect this one to be more economical in a time when the US will not be able to take that hit if it comes from a Russia-China alliance.
